Fiber Cement Siding Advantages Over Vinyl Siding

Choosing which type of siding to install on your home is an important choice. Although it may be tempting to go for the least expensive option, you still need to make sure it will stand up to brutal Minnesota storms and the test of time.

Even though fiber cement siding installation is on the more expensive end of the spectrum, the investment will pay off in terms of durability, safety and appearance. Fire is always a concern for any homeowner, but fiber cement siding is approved for fire rated construction. This means the siding won’t burn, which will give your family more time to escape in event of a fire. It’s also resistant to warping, cracking and rotting, plus it’ll stand up to 150 mile per hour winds. Because it’s five times thicker than vinyl, it’ll give more protection than that option. In terms of color, it’s less likely to fade, thanks to the baked on color applied during the manufacturing process

Vinyl
Vinyl is very popular and less expensive, but it will need to be replaced sooner than fiber cement siding. If fire does happen, it will also melt or burn when exposed to high enough temperatures. When it comes to storms, vinyl siding can also be damaged when hit by tree limbs, debris in the wind or hail. This is, in part, due to the fact that it’s so thin. Many times, it’s also simply installed over older siding, which doesn’t address any preexisting problems. Finally, it also has a tendency to fade, which makes it very difficult to match the color if spot .repairs need to be made.

When it comes right down to it, you must choose what’s right for your home and situation.  But if you haven’t considered fiber cement, perhaps now is the time to take a good look at this siding option.
