Integrity Fiberglass Windows by Marvin Are Virtually Soundproof

What’s the noise level like inside your home?  We’re talking about outside noise making its way inside.  For most people, except those who live in remote areas, this can sometimes be an issue.  Did you know that the right replacement windows can make a difference?

No matter where your home is located,  indoors you are exposed to some degree of sound from the outside.

This can be anything from the traffic on a busy street to the train tracks that run nearby. Perhaps your home is underneath an airport flight path and that insulation the airport commission installed didn’t quite do the trick.

While you can’t completely eliminate the noise, with certain windows you can drastically cut the exterior noise infiltration in your home.  We highly recommend Integrity fiberglass replacement windows by Marvin if you’re looking to reduce noise transmission.

You have three options when it comes to choosing the right windows for the home you live in: Standard Transmission Class or STC, Outdoor/Indoor Transmission Class OITC or PVB laminate glass that has an extra layer to help block the sounds coming from outside. The last one also helps with security.

Replacement Window Glass Factors That Affect Noise Transmission

The Thickness of the Glass: The thickness of the glass of the windows is one factor that makes a difference in blocking the outside noise. The thicker the glass, the better sound blocking quality it is going to have.

A study was conducted that showed that 3 mm and 6 mm glass was the ideal thickness for being able to block out the outside noise. Going any thicker than 6 mm distorted the view to the outside world.

Air Gaps:  Air gaps that are placed in the windows when they are manufactured serve several purposes.  Air adds insulating value, but those gaps are also there to reduce the amount of sound that passes through the glass. It helps create a buffer from the outside sound to the inside. The right sized air gaps can help to reduce the amount of sound that is passing through.

Choosing the right windows is going to go a long way when it comes to the sound blocking qualities in your home. Speak with the right window professionals, such as the ones here at Window Outfitters.  We can recommend the best windows, including Integrity by Marvin that can help block that outside Minneapolis sound out of your home.
