Frame-In-Frame Casement Windows: Versatile and Beautiful

You’ve put time and effort into making your home your own. Just because you’ve finally achieved the look you want doesn’t mean that you can’t update your casement windows. You don’t need to rip up the wall paper when you go for frame-in-frame windows.  If you’re not familar with this replacement window option, here are some of the basics.

Matching What You Already Have

These types of windows come with a wide variety of styles. Wood color and type is easily matched to what you have. Aluminum clad exteriors are tough, and can be painted to match your home’s color scheme. If you like wood for the exterior as well, that’s also available.

If you have oddly shaped windows, ask your contractor about available options. Frame-in-frame windows come in many varieties, including round top and pentagon shaped.

The hardware is also available in various finishes and models. The classic crank is a good stand-by, but there are also varieties which can be tucked flush against the frame to prevent snags.

Energy Efficient

Since UV protection is a concern, companies offer the ability to have low-e coating applied to the glass. This cuts down on energy consumption through reflecting the heat of the sun away from the house.

Multi-pane options are also available. These work by adding another layer of air for added insulation. Argon gas is pumped between the panes of glass because it’s a better insulator than normal air.

Better View

To ensure a great view year round, these types of windows can also be tilted into the house to allow for easy cleaning of both sides.

Retractable screens are easily added to new casements. These screens can be retracted into the window jamb when not in use. When they are being used, the mesh is specially designed to offer an optimized view, while still keeping insects out.

When researching options for installing new casement windows, frame-in-frame window replacements are worth considering.
