The Many Styles of Beautiful Vinyl Siding for Twin Cities Homes

We find at this time of year when it’s cold outside that homeowners around the Twin Cities are curling up indoors, making lists of things they want to fix up the outsides of their homes.  One project that’s often on those lists is new siding.  And that’s understandable, because Minnesota weather (especially the winters) can be hard on siding. So you can expect to replace yours eventually.

There are lots of different options when it comes to choosing siding materials.  We’d like to talk to you about vinyl siding.  One company we have partnered with is Royal® Building Products, and we install both their insulated and non-insulated Exterior Portfolio® vinyl siding (formerly Crane).  Quality vinyl siding is affordable and cost-effective. It’s a great way to protect and beautify your home without having to break the bank.

Popular Vinyl Siding Styles

Once you’ve decided that vinyl siding is right for your home, your next choices are going to be color and style.  And you have lots to choose from!  Some of the most attractive homes you’ll see are those that combine multiple styles of siding.  In addition to different colors, you can select from these basic vinyl siding designs. Note the three homes shown below.  Though distinctively different in appearance, they all have one thing in common: each home combines different siding styles and colors.  Talk about great curb appeal!

Shake, Shingle, and Scallop Siding

Shake siding has traditionally been crafted out of real wood, but it doesn’t have to be. Real wood siding doesn’t hold up well to our weather, and it requires lots of upkeep.  Plus it’s expensive.  With technology the way it is, you can have vinyl shake siding that looks like wood but isn’t. You can have the best of both worlds without paying the price for it or having to do the maintenance that would normally come with it. Shingle siding is very similar in look. Scallop siding is a variant of the shake or shingle look.  You might see it referred to as half rounds.

Vertical Siding

Once popular for agricultural buildings, vertical siding is something that is gaining more popularity with homeowners. Not only is it different than the traditional look of horizontally placed boards, but it offers a chance for the homeowner to do something different from the rest of the homes on the block.

One variant of vertical siding is the board and batten style. You can see this siding design on the home on the far right above. The dark siding on the upper gables is board and batten.

Lap Siding

Lap siding is the common traditional style, and it’s the one most people picture when you mention siding.  Lap siding comes in several widths as well as different types of lapping. Traditional lap and Dutch lap are the most common, though there is a variation called shiplap.

Clapboard

Clapboard is horizontal like the traditional style of siding, but it has a deep grain texture in it which makes it look even more like wood.

Plus, you can opt for vinyl siding that is extremely well insulated, allowing you to keep the inside of your home more comfortable.

You can choose from many different vinyl options out there and go with the one that you feel the most comfortable using. We’d be happy to meet with you in your home and review the siding options offer.  Speak with us today to have new siding put on the home that you have.  Our consultations are always free, and there is no obligation.
