Three Perfect Windows For Your Reading Nook

There are a few essentials to having a great reading experience: a comfy place in which to curl up, a good light source and your reading material of choice. If you’d like to create your own little reading nook, think about installing any of these windows and customizing the space around them.

Bay Windows
Window seats are great little spots to hide away with your favorite book, and bay windows are perfect for these types of seats.  These types of windows let in natural light while still sheltering you from the elements. Once they’re installed, you can add small book cases to hold your collection, a soft cushion for the window seat and a blanket to curl up in.

Bow Windows
Bow windows are like bay windows in that they let in a huge amount of light and can feature a window seat, but they protrude from the house more. This means that when you’re getting ready to lose yourself in a story on a Minnesota winter day, you can still enjoy the magic of the snow, but stay toasty warm the whole time.  Bow windows date back to England in the 18th century, so in addition to adding a sense of three dimensions to the room, they also add history. This atmosphere is a wonderful supplement to the reading experience when the books you read are fantasy, history or mysteries set in that period of time.

Garden Windows
Many people use garden (also called greenhouse) windows to start seedlings early or to show off their potted plants. However, since they offer so much light, they’re wonderful for reading corners.  Because of how they’re constructed, the natural light reflects off of the inner glass making up the compartment for plants and provides the perfect atmosphere for reading. The window can also double as an end table for your drink when you set your recliner next to it.

While these three types of windows ensure a unique and romantic reading experience, picture, awning and many other types of windows offer light, mood and atmosphere to any reading nook.  Need help figuring out just which window styles might work for your home?  Window Outfitters offers no-obligation individual appointments at our showroom so that you can see for yourself the beautiful options available.
