We’ve Got the Perfect Replacement Windows for the Farmhouse Look in Minneapolis

One of the hottest home design and remodeling trends to emerge in the last few years is the farmhouse style.  Whether it’s due to nostalgia for simpler days or bringing the look of the country to the city, the farmhouse look is popping up all across Minneapolis, as well as most other communities in the U.S. For some homes, it’s just a room or two (the kitchen being the most popular), while for others it’s an entire exterior makeover.  Regardless, the right windows can make or break the look.

If you’re thinking of adding a bit of the country to your home with farmhouse style, we’ve got just the right windows.  Here are some elements to consider:

Marvin black windows and doorsTips for Choosing Windows That Reflect the Farmhouse Style

One thing that most farmhouse designs have in common is the main palette is white, accented with high-contrast black window and door frames (That doubles up on trending by the way, since black frames have been hot for nearly a decade.)

Another characteristic is the large window, as well as large doorways (think double doors).  A great way to give the look of a larger window without enlarging the existing window opening is to switch to thinner-frame fiberglass windows.  Because fiberglass windows as so strong, it’s possible to manufacture slimmer frames without sacrificing strength.  We’d love to show you the gorgeous black fiberglass windows one of our favorite window partners, Marvin, offers.

Just check out the photo above to see what we mean.  Note that the windows have divided light – another farmhouse style element, yet the grids are slim, hardly breaking up the glass at all.

Another element – well-lit interiors.  Take a close look at the photo above again and note:

  • Fixed transom windows above the door as well as the lower level windows
  • An almost floor-to-ceiling fixed window to the right of the front entry

These are just a few things to keep in mind if you’re making over your home to reflect the modern farmhouse style.  Why not schedule a free consultation with us today?  We can meet with you either in your home or in our newly-expanded door and window showroom in Savage.
