What Adding a Garden Window to Your Home Can Do For You

We recently shared a post about a hot trend in home design right now:  the resort look.   There are multiple ways to bring the feel of the tropics into your home.  Some involve those luscious and vibrant colors, but one way is to find more spots in your home to add plants, especially the tropical ones that thrive indoors with the right environment.  Can’t find a spot that gives enough sunlight?  Consider replacing one of your larger windows with a garden window, sometimes called a greenhouse window.

What Are the Benefits of a Garden Window?

Shown here at right is just one of the garden windows we offer.  Several of our window suppliers have greenhouse or garden windows.  This one is a maintenance-free vinyl window from ProVia’s Aspect line. We highly recommend this particular window for those interested in a greenhouse type window because the Aspect windows include an innovative glass package that creates less heat loss while producing a warmer glass.  The potential for condensation forming on the glass is also reduced, and that’s particularly important in a spot where you’re watering plants.

Vinyl is a terrific choice for a garden window, since there’s no chance of water damage that might happen with a wood one.  This particular window has been installed over a kitchen sink, and that’s the most popular place.  Cooks love the chance to grow fresh herbs, and there’s just something refreshing about being surrounded by green plants as you’re working in your kitchen.

  • Garden windows offer light from four directions, so it’s the perfect spot for sun-loving plants.  Most come with operable crank-out windows on the sides that allow ventilation from several directions.  This configuration can bring much more airflow in than a standard double-hung or even a casement window could.
  • With a window style like this you get more display space.  This can be particularly beneficial in a kitchen, because you can free up counter space.
  • And then there’s the issue of curb appeal.  A garden window creates a look that no other window style can replicate.  This window adds a touch of style that’s very striking, both from the interior of your home as well as the exterior.
  • Finally, there are the health benefits.  Being able to have more natural light is a plus, and plenty of studies have shown that living plants in a home can have a positive affect on one’s physical and mental health.

As THE replacement window company for the greater Minneapolis area, we’re pleased to be able to offer this window style to homeowners in our area.
