If you own an older or historic home in the Minneapolis area, chances are if your windows are the original ones, they are single pane glass. In fact, it wasn’t until the 1970s that double pane glass windows became common. Most new homes built in the 1970s-1980s were constructed with these type of windows. Double pane glass may also be referred to as double glazing. These types of windows are now the standard.
You might wonder if your home is one of those with single-pane windows whether it’s worth it to replace them with more energy-efficient double pane windows. In most cases, we’d say it certainly is, and for more reasons than you might think. (The exception is if your windows are genuine wood and still in good shape. You can read more in this previous post about why we don’t recommend replacements windows for most homes like this.)
If you do have a home with original wood windows that are still in good shape, you may want to consider having Mon-Ray acoustic storm windows installed over them. You’ll get much of the same benefits while retaining the aesthetics you fell in love with when you bought your home. These windows have been installed in both residential, institutional, and commercial buildings across the country. And we’re proud to offer Mon-Ray storm windows to our customers here in the Twin Cities.
