What’s Trending in Minneapolis Replacement Windows for 2021

One of the best ways to bring a home up to date and give it a fresh, new look is to incorporate something that’s currently a trend. Now, that advice needs a little caution, because just like many things, trends may be hot today are on the ‘what not to do’ list in just a few years.  But we’ve been paying attention to trends in the window industry as well as what designers recommend.  And there are some trends that seem to be holding strong, like the use of black window frames (and door frames) as well as high contrast exteriors.  The clean, simple lines of the farmhouse style also appear to be a long-term trend.

If you’re contemplating replacing your windows soon, here are a few you might consider.

Current Trends in Replacement Windows

There are of course a lot of trends in exterior remodeling having to do with windows, but these two are the most popular.  We don’t see them changing in the near future:

  • Sustainability and eco-friendliness:  This trend is affecting the entire home building and remodeling business.  Homeowners are looking for things that save energy and are constructed using environmentally responsible materials.  That’s one of the reasons we recommend fiberglass windows from Marvin.  Fiberglass is manufactured from sustainable materials – mostly sand.  It’s considered one of the most eco-friendly window frame materials.
  • Natural light and ventilation: This trend is somewhat related to the first.   There are numerous physical and emotional health benefits of being exposed to natural light and fresh air.  Windows that bring more of both into a home are very popular.  Certain window styles – like casement windows – let more air in through the same size space.  And windows with thinner frames or less break-up of the glass area allow more light in.  That is definitely a benefit of bay and bow windows and well as garden windows.  For the maximum in natural light, you might consider floor-to-ceiling windows in spots where it’s practical. (The photo shown above is a modern cabin on Caribou Lake, Minnesota, constructed with Marvin Signature Ultimate Windows.  You can find out more about this project on Marvin’s design blog.)
