Why a Certified Contractor Matters When Choosing Siding

Step one:  Y0u’ve decided it’s time to replace your old cracked and fading siding.  Step two:  After evaluating the materials available and getting recommendations from some friends and neighbors, you’re fairly certain that what you want is James Hardie fiber cement siding.  Step three:  hiring a contractor.  The first two steps might get more attention than the third, but who you choose is important as what you choose when it comes to siding installation, especially with a product such as Hardie siding.  While there are many siding contractors out there who provide quality workmanship and good customer service, there are additional benefits for you when you select a Hardie-certified contractor.

Why Should I Choose a Hardie-Certified Contractor to Install My Siding?

1.   The James Hardie Company offers a “Preferred Remodeler” certification program.  It’s not mandatory; it’s not mandatory and there is no financial incentive.  Unlike a residential building contractor’s license, it’s not a legal requirement for installing siding.  What this means to you as a homeowner is that the contractor has “gone the extra mile” in qualifying for a designation that’s voluntary.  Certification by Hardie of “Preferred Remodeler” status means this contractor is concerned about offering the best quality workmanship.

2.  Certification means that the siding contractor has acquired the sufficient specific training and experience to properly install Hardie siding products.  When The James Hardie Company confers this status on an installer, it means that Hardie has confidence in the workmanship and business practices of the contractor and will back them up in the event there is a problem.

3.  Preferred Remodelers are a select group who have an established working relationship with The James Hardie Company.  In order to maintain that relationship and the certification status, the contractor must agree to random 3rd party evaluation of their installation projects.  This brings about accountability – if you know your work could be evaluated at any time and that maintaining your status depends on the quality of your workmanship, you’ll want to do your best job every time, right?  The same holds true for certified siding contractors.

Is Siding Contractor Certification Really That Important?

4.   Not all siding companies provide contractor certification programs such as Hardie’s Preferred Remodeler.  And even companies which confer such status on contractors don’t necessarily make it mandatory for installation of their products.  But when you choose a certified contractor such as one carefully selected by The James Hardie Company, you can have confidence knowing that the siding installer has demonstrated a high level of workmanship and customer satisfaction.   James Hardie is very particular about the installers they select, because their reputation is on the line with each installation project.

5.  Another benefit of choosing a Hardie-certified contractor for siding installation is that James Hardie regularly works with their Preferred Remodelers to get input from both installers and customers as to issue resolution, development of additional options such as color choices and design profiles, etc.  With feedback from both contractors and homeowners, The James Hardie Company is able to continue innovative engineering to deliver the best siding product on the market.  That’s what has made them the #1 choice worldwide for residential siding.
