Why Buying Inexpensive Replacement Windows for Your Minneapolis Home Is Not a Good Idea

We understand that when it comes time to make an improvement on your home or replacing something like your old windows, it’s just natural to want to get a good deal and save money where you can.  But as you’re evaluating replacement windows, we’d like you to know that ‘cheap’ and ‘economical’ are two very different things. While comparing prices is important, the initial cost should not be your primary deciding factor.  Cutting costs on things like windows is not advisable, for several reasons.  As THE replacement window company here in the Twin Cities, we’d like to tell you why.

  • There is a strong link between the cost of replacement windows and their quality. Replacing windows in a home is a major project.  And you want to choose quality windows that will last a long time.  Those bargain windows probably won’t.
  • Don’t go for the bargain windows at the big-box home improvement store.  Your windows will only perform as well as they installation, so in the long run it’s worth it to have an experienced, reputable replacement window company install them for you.  Yes, it will cost more up front, but getting those windows put in according to the manufacturer’s specifics is crucial.
  • Window frame material affects price, with genuine wood windows being the most expensive.  Fiberglass windows cost less than wood, but more than the most economical choice, vinyl. Often vinyl windows are our recommendation for homes here in the Minneapolis area, so we aren’t against vinyl windows.  But we DO suggest you skip the cheap vinyl ones.

If saving money on your replacement window project is important, don’t skimp on your windows themselves. Check out our previous article on the factors that influence the cost of a new window.

You CAN cut costs by choosing less expensive styles.  For example, single hung windows cost less than double-hung windows, and there may be places in your home where single-hung windows will work just as well.  Our goal when we work with prospective customers is to come up with a replacement window solution that fits not only their home and their taste but also their budget.  We’ll work with you to get the right windows for you at the right price.
