Why Is Black So Popular for Minnesota Homes? (Don’t Be Afraid to Install Black Windows and Doors)

You may have noticed that icy white and pale neutrals have been predominant colors for exteriors of homes in the recent past. And as a reflection of that, white frames have remained very popular with our Twin Cities replacement window customers.  The appeal of fresh, light colors is understandable. And designers noted a trend in the first part decade of this century toward Scandinavian design, which incorporates whites and neutrals.  But, like other home improvement contractors we have noticed that things are changing, and dark tones that create a moodiness are coming to the forefront.  Many of our prospective customers are asking about black frames.

The ‘white is always right’ mantra is switching, and according to a color expert at Sherwin Williams, black is the new white. (Check out our recent related blog post on black window and door frames.)

“It’s a pendulum swing. We were all so in love with stripping back and getting to the essence of things. Now rich color is absolutely everywhere. People are hungry for it.”

Sue Wadden, Director of Color Marketing at Sherwin-Williams

In a recent article in Marvin’s ‘Inspired’ blog, the trend toward black and other dark tones is discussed.  What’s great about incorporating black window and door frames into your home is that it’s much easier to do than painting entire walls or siding your home in black.  Plus you’ve got much more in the way of design and decorating options.

To find out more about the whys and hows of using black in your home, visit Marvin’s blog by clicking here. And you can also contact us for a no-obligation appointment to check out what we’ve got available in terms of black replacement windows, entry doors, patio doors, and storm doors.
