Window and Door Frame Colors: Dark and Moody Swooping in Over the Light and Airy

With so many changes that happen to a home throughout the year, if you’re planning a remodeling project, think about how your home could use some color shifts.  We’ve noticed one of the trends in exterior remodeling is the popularity of black window frames (and door frames as well).  Once dominated by white and ivory, it seems that the new design trend is toward darker, moodier appeal rather than a lighter, airy one.

As a reaction from the stark whites, or the off whites or the neutrals that once were, you can easily find that darker colors are currently taking over these lighter ones. They are making their mark and adding more contrast than ever before.  Minimalism was something that happened to take over come 2010, but now as the year moves forward, things are surely becoming darker for everyone.

The Absence of Color

Black seems like a simple color. You get one shade and that is it, right? However, this is not the case. Shades of black can be found everywhere and they look different from one another. There are matte and gloss blacks, some bordering on charcoal. Several of our window and door manufacturers offer black or deep brown shades. Just check out our Pinterest board, Black Window & Door Frames, for some inspiration.

Now consider some contrasts via siding colors, trim, or even a colored front door.  Adding a bright, lighter color to offset dark window and door frames is really going to make that color palette pop out. Whether it is a bright blue or a cherry red, you can create a diverse, visionary mix of colors. Just look how the vibrant yellow front door in this photo really pops out, surrounded by black frame and sidelights.

Get a Crisp Look with New Windows

Getting a crisper, better look for your home – inside and out – with new windows is something that can really make a difference in how your home looks and feels.  Dark window frames contrasting with light colored siding and interior walls creates a dynamic appeal.  Switching to darker frames is a great way to give your home a more modern look, regardless of its style.

Here are Window Outfitters, we install windows and exterior doors in a variety of frame colors.  And we offer products from several high-quality manufacturers like Marvin.  We are a Marvin Authorized Replacement Contractor for the Integrity window line that we offer. You can choose the right color that really makes your windows and your home stand out, regardless if you go with a dark and moody color or a lighter, airy one.
