With Changing Weather in Minneapolis, Storm Doors Are a Must!

People who live in Minneapolis joke about keeping shorts and down jackets in the same location.  That’s understandable – our weather can change rapidly. (The past week is a great indication of that.)  It helps to be prepared for what tomorrow will bring.  It’s not just your clothes – it’s your home, too.  And one of the best ways to be ready for a quick shift in the weather is to have storm doors installed.

Why We Recommend Homes in Minneapolis Have Storm Doors

If you already have energy-efficient entry doors, you might wonder why you need storm doors, too.  After all, isn’t a good quality entry door all the protection you need?  One thing we tell people who ask that is that storm doors add extra features to your entry areas that doors alone don’t offer.  For example:

  • If your entry doors are real wood, storm doors will protect the exterior surface from wind and debris damage as well as from rain, snow, and ice.
  • A storm door is like adding a sweater when the weather turns cool – it’s an extra layer of insulation for your entry areas.  When the wind is blowing hard, even the best doors could use some help to fight off cold.
  • Storm doors provide extra functionality quickly.  You can open your entry door for air or light and still have security.

Here’s a great example:  You wake up Monday morning and the mercury shows it’s 30º.  It’s a bit chilly at breakfast but after lunch the temperature is above 50º and the sun is shining, so you might open your entry doors and let that gorgeous sunshine in.  Because your storm door locks, you don’t have to worry about uninvited guests coming in or pets or children getting out.

And what about when the weather warms up and you want fresh air?  Storm doors with self-storing screens to the rescue!  You’re ready to let that spring air in, but because those screens slide up and down easily, when that spring rain storm hits without much notice, all you have to do is slide the glass back in place.  You can still keep the daylight in while keeping the rain out!

Making a quick switch to adjust to changing weather conditions is easy with the right storm doors.  And because we offer so many different configurations, you can choose the one that’s right for you.  Full glass storms are great for areas with terrific views.  But perhaps you’ve got pets that get a bit curious.  In that case, you can have a half screen door with a built-in pet door OR one of our terrific ProVia storm doors with DuraGuard screening, meant to hold up to those dog or cat claws.  Or even a curious child!

Protect your entry areas with storm doors and you’ll be ready for whatever weather conditions hit Minneapolis next.  Why not contact us for a free consultation on storm doors for your home?  We can set up a meeting in your home, or we can arrange a private appointment for you at our Savage window and door showroom.  No cost, no obligation.
