Wood Clad Windows Give You Both Natural Beauty and Ease of Maintenance

If you know your windows need replacement and you’re having trouble choosing between a low-maintenance window material such as vinyl or fiberglass, versus the beauty and traditional charm of real wood, the good news is that you don’t have to choose.  With wood clad windows it’s available to have great-looking wood frames on the inside of your home, but durable and easy-to-care for exterior frames.   Cladding is generally available in aluminum, vinyl, or other metals such as copper or zinc, which are more expensive than vinyl or aluminum-clad frames.

With wood-clad windows you have all the advantages of wood window frames – you can choose either pre-finished, or have your interior window frames stained to match existing trim or cabinetry.  But that wood beauty you love in the inside is not always the best choice for an exterior surface.  Exterior wood window frames need frequent re-painting or staining, and the heavy rains and snows we get here in the Minneapolis area can be hard on exterior wood surfaces.  When you choose frames which are clad in an almost no-maintenance option, about all you have to do to keep those exterior window frames looking like new is to give them a periodic cleaning.

For those homeowners who want traditional beauty in window frames without all the exterior maintenance, Window Outfitters is proud to install Pella wood clad windows.   In manufacturing these windows, Pella first kiln-dries the wood to specifications which produce a durable window frame which resists cracking or splitting as well as moisture-caused swelling.  Then they finish off the exterior of the frames with a durable aluminum cladding that will stand up to Mother Nature, lasting for years and looking good without any color fade.

Pella wood clad windows are a great choice for owners of older or historic homes who want to replicate the look of their original or existing windows.  If your home is in a historic district and you’ve got restrictions regarding replacement windows, chances are that Pella has a wood-clad window which will meet those requirements.  At Window Outfitters we specialize in historic home windows and doors, and we’d be happy to work with you and your historic district to help you make a window selection which pleases all parties.

Pella wood windows are also very energy-efficient.  In fact, wood clad window frames can be up to 1,800 times more efficient than aluminum-only frames.

If you want an authentic look in your windows – without all the hassle of upkeep but the benefits of modern energy-efficient windows, consider replacing your old windows with wood clad windows from Pella.  Window Outfitters is a  Pella Certified Contractor.   We install a wide range of windows and doors by Pella, as well as other quality window manufacturers.
