Wood Entry Doors Can Be Inviting and Distinctive

Although genuine wood entry doors may not work for all exterior situations, there are times that the natural warmth of wood could be just the right touch for your front door.  We don’t recommend natural wood doors in full sunlight or northern exposures in Minnesota’s somewhat harsh winter climate since wood doesn’t hold up well in these conditions, but if your front entry is protected or in shade most of the time, wood could be a good choice.

This Old House presents four very distinctive wood front doors to demonstrate that a door can be more than just a point of entry into your home.  Each of the doors shown fits well with the architecture of the home, which is a major consideration when choosing a new door.  There are also other basic choices shown, ranging from stock to custom designed.

Certain door styles work better with particular architectural designs than others, but that doesn’t mean you have to choose a door exactly like the one you’re replacing.  Don’t be afraid to go for a fresh, new look, because there is probably something available that can work with your home’s overall style but yet give it a different feel.

The front door is usually the main focus for a home, so it pays to do your homework before ordering a new door.  We believe that a brochure picture can’t compare with seeing the product for yourself.  That’s why we offer appointments at our showroom so that you can take a look at the doors in person.  And then if you need some help choosing one, you can be confident that you’ll have the advice of an exterior entry door expert.
